After a 6:30 wake up and a 7:30 breakfast we piled, bleary eyes and yawning but crazy excited, onto the bus and drove half an hour to Venice before catching our water taxi to the main island. All thoughts of sleep forgotten, we marveled at the ornate old buildings and iconic bridges as we walked towards St Mark's Square. Our poor teachers had to basically pull us by our backpacks to make us hurry... There were far too many potential profile picture moments for us to resist taking pictures with everything.
Eddy, our Italian mama, (ahem, tour guide) led us through the cobbled streets with a pirate flag so that we wouldn't lose her and to the church where we were going to perform that night. After the priest checked our skirts were an um... an appropriate length, we made our way back to St Mark's Square. We then entered the Doge's Palace and spent two hours learning about Venice's rich history.
After a tour of St Mark's Cathedral we were then free to explore Venice!

We split into small groups and dispersed. Lunch was a priority and pizza, naturally, was a common choice. Then, gelato in one hand and euros in the other, we took Venice's markets by storm. Family back home can rest assured, they were not forgotten in our purchases!
Unfortunately, our free time went by far too quickly and we had to head back to St Moise church, where we did our very first performance! (strictly sacred of course) Afterwards we walked to the Ristorante Trovatore where we enjoyed a three course dinner. On a high from our concert, we sang all the way there, coming across two other touring choirs in the process! Our sing-offs were incredibly well received by the tourists walking through Venice.
All too soon we were back on the water taxi and reversing our steps from the morning, still singing, to the district of Jesolo and our Hotel American. We tumbled into bed, contentedly exhausted, with the promise of another early wake up and a journey to Ljubljana, Slovenia the next morning!
